+39 OUTBREAK
2020
Italy was the first country in the Western world to face an outbreak of Coronavirus.
On March 10, 2020, after a series of inconsistent and derisory statements by government officials and members of the scientific community regarding a possible threat posed by the novel coronavirus from China, Italy entered lockdown, leaving its citizen and the rest of Europe under general astonishment and disbelief.
Italy would soon become a national laboratory, setting the guidelines for the later global health response that would follow.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the government led by Giuseppe Conte has struggled to meet the needs of a country that is largely based on the restaurant and tourism industry and to find a formula to prevent the gradual economic collapse of the country.
